Walter Donway

Writer & Consultant

  • About
  • Sampling of Clients

Writing the case requires bringing together the very general and the very particular. You must capture what is truly individual and unrepeatable about the personality and story of a wholly distinctive client.

For three decades, Walter has worked with Marts & Lundy clients to communicate to their constituencies a compelling story of their missions, accomplishments, and potential.

For capital and annual campaign case statements, proposals, and publications, he has helped them to articulate their real and lasting impact on the lives of those they serve. With them, he has found language to capture the urgency and credibility of their plans for their future.

Walter is equally at home with foundations. He was senior program officer for the Commonwealth Fund and programs director and director of communications for the Dana Foundation. He founded and edited Cerebrum: The Dana Forum on Brain Science. He began fundraising as director of foundation relations for his alma mater, Brown University.

And when he's not working...

Walter has been called a “writer’s writer,” publishing novels, poetry, and nonfiction, including his recent Writing Your Fund-Raising Case Statement: Process, Not Creative Agony. His work appears in dozens of print and online publications. He maintains several websites. He and his wife, Robin, a program director at Little Red School House in Manhattan, spend time in East Hampton, where Walter occasionally gets out from under his laptop to jog, bike, fish, and garden. His son is a writer, too.
